How to choose

What to check before you pick

  1. License: read it. Some projects are open source with a hosted paid tier.
  2. Activity: recent releases and issue responses on the repository.
  3. Self-hosting effort: what you need to run and maintain it yourself.
  4. Hosted option: whether the maintainers offer a managed version if you outgrow self-hosting.
  5. Fit: start from the layer of the stack you need, then compare within it.

This checklist is general advice. Check each vendor's docs and pricing page for current details.
